Piette’s Post

Good day to all,

As this is published, we are a few days away from celebrating the 250th birthday of our country.  This milestone brings memories of the celebrations that I enjoyed with friends in Red River, New Mexico during the centennial weekend.  Highlights included spending a night in a tent at Cabresto Lake (9,200 ft), being pulled into the Red River during the town sponsored tug-of-war contest and waving at crowds while riding in a parade with others in Dennis’s Camaro Convertible.

Regarding our business, I wish to extend a thank you to Claudia and Joe for hosting the Door County bike ride June 13.  It was a great event.  We had a nice group of cyclists enjoying the beautiful scenery heading south along Green Bay shoreline before turning to enjoy the countryside.  This included a stop at Cherry Hills Golf Course for refreshments. Following the ride back to their home, we enjoyed some lunch and camaraderie as we looked out at the Bay and watched wildlife.

Our ski trip committee is a good group and is doing well.  We met late in June and we made significant progress preparing for our February 6 to Feb 10 trip to Ogden Utah to ski Snow Basin and our week-long trip to Whitefish Montana March 6 to 13.  Each of these trips will be affordable for members of our clubs.  They will also be excellent socially and a great way for new members to get to know people.  This is especially true for anyone that chooses to ride Amtrack to Whitefish.  Amtrack is significantly less expensive and is an opportunity to visit with members, play cards, and watch the scenery, especially North Dakota’s wildlife and Glacier Park.

We also agreed that we will have a weekend trip to Snow River.  Snow River accepts Ikon passes along with annual passes from their business sites, including Granite Peak.   Adam will organize lodging.   This will be planned as a trip to which we will drive to, eliminating the extra cost for a bus and driver.

More information will be out on these ideas in August.  We will very likely have trip signups late in the summer again.  This has become common in recent years because of changes from airlines that require financial commitments for reservations.

IMPORTANT:  The Board agreed that we do not need to have our monthly meetings during June or July.  The Board will meet again on August 11, for our regularly scheduled meeting.

I wish each of you all the best as we celebrate Independence Day,

Tom Piette
