With about 60 people in attendance, the Spring Banquet was great ! The head waitress from The Woods, Betty, gave us the signal to be seated by ringing a dinner bell at 7. The food that was served was delicious: fish, tips and chicken. Although The Woods served dessert, Ve-ronica Williquette brought her homemade desserts, such as carrot cake, that couldn’t be beat ! When the plates were cleared, the annual meeting began.
We opened the meeting by singing Happy Birthday to the birthday boy, Jason Derenne. The agenda started with a couple of announcements: We are creating a 45th anniversary party committee—please contact Brian Fowle if you are interested. Searchmont gave us a couple of lift tickets for next season—please contact Adam Hanson if you are interested in these. We then moved to the elections for the year. The Vice President and Treasurer positions were up for election this year.
Both Gary Austin and Tom Piette were nominated for Vice President. After taking a vote, Gary Austin will be our new Vice President. Jeanine Bosdech was nominated and accepted the position of Treasurer with Ron Quick helping if needed. Unfortunately, Niels Jensen need-ed to step down mid-term as secretary since he will be gone 50% of the time next year. Judy Van Caster was nominated and accepted the one year term of Secretary. I would like to thank Mike Komoroske (VP), Ron Quick (Treasurer) and Niels Jenson (Secretary) for all of their help.
The Obtuse of the Year award had the following nominations: Al Gardapee from the Boyne trip for leaving his helmet on the bus, Senny Wegner from the Breckenridge trip for setting off the fire alarms, Brian Fowle from the Searchmont trip for seeing what appeared to be a comet in the sky when it was really a reflection from the back of the bus and Adam Hanson from a GSC bike trip for using the great outdoors as a bathroom facility. Senny won the Obtuse of the Year award. Since the old Obtuse award from years ago turned up, we were able to award the runner up, who was Adam for using the outdoor facilities…..
The Donny Steffens award was given to Senny Wegner for skiing a total of 20 days. Dick Wortiska came in 2nd with 19 days and Mike Komoroske came in third with 18 days.
Places that people would like the board to check on for next year are: Spirit Mountain, Vail, Keystone, Heavenly, Lutsen, Mt Bohemia/Porcupine and Chile. We will be checking into some of these for next year.
Adam Hanson informed us to look at the May Newsletter to find the activities for the summer. Dan Goudreau suggested a Sly Fox vs. Gelandesprung golf match—if anyone is interested in organizing this, please contact me. Adam is also asking for donations for the Child Pediatric Cancer Charity—please contact him if you are interested in contributing.
Dick talked about the Alaskan Cruise he is planning for September 13-20, 2014. He also asked if anyone had an interest in joining him for the CMSC weekend May 16-18, the sign up was April 12th. He is looking into a trip out west for next year—it may be to Canada or Califor-nia. Tom Piette shared details of the National Bike Challenge & handed out instructions for enrollment. Sam Fontaine gave us info on Davos Switzerland and Venice Italy. Deb Bram-schrieber let us know that the Sly Foxes will be hosting a Timber Rattlers game this year.
All in all, it was a wonderful evening!
