President's message February 2014

Julie's Jive

Well the Groundhog, Punxsutawney Phil, saw his shadow—so we have 6 more weeks of winter—Yeah ! During the last week of January, McDonald’s was giving Wisconsinites free sandwiches since the temperatures were in the negative digits. On the other hand, the temperatures at Breckenridge were above zero and much nicer—especially for skiing.

We still have room on our Boyne trip (February 21-23) & our Searchmont trip (March 14-16). Please sign up & enjoy the fun!

It has come to my attention that there is some confusion regarding the voucher we received from Amtrak last year. The train ride back from Whitefish last year should have taken us 28 hours. Instead, it took us roughly 37 hours, over 9 hours more to come back to Wisconsin due to problems with the train. To make amends, Amtrak gave the club a voucher for their troubles. This voucher was not a check that we deposited into our bank account, it was a “credit” given to us—so we couldn’t give money back to those who were on the bus.

The board decided to apply the voucher to our out-west trip for the 2013- 2014 ski season. To compensate those who were part of the train trip back from Whitefish, they would receive a $100 credit to any Gelandesprung Ski Trip during the 2013-2014 ski season. This $100 is not transferable; it has to be taken on one transaction. If you decided not to go on a Gelandesprung Ski Trip during the 2013-2014 ski season, the credit would be lost to you.

To improve communication during our trips, we are including the trip leaders’ cell phone numbers in the Newsletters for both the Gelandesprung trips and the Sly Fox trips. We are also asking the trip leaders to try to contact the people going on their trip, so everyone on the trip is on the same page. This should help anyone who may be running late or have an emergency while trying to get to the bus. Please remember to put skis in ski bags. We have had skis without bags & the sharp edges have damaged some things under the bus.
