Snow Report for Beaver Creek

Beaver Creek

Description

Beaver Creek boasts the ambiance of a modern resort coupled with the unhurried feel of an alpine village, where visitors the world over enter the gates and leave everyday life behind all year long. World-class skiing and resort amenities, drop-dead gorgeous Rocky Mountain views make this town in the Vail Valley the ideal place for a serene getaway.

NOTE:  Signup for the trip is closed.  You may contact the trip leaders if you'd like to be on a waiting list.

We will be bussing to Midway for the flight to Denver.  The bus will be ready for loading at 4:15 leave at 4:30 on January 23 at the Wal-Mart in De Pere, the normal place the club uses.  Park near Culvers for this trip versus on the south end of the building by the garden center.  We will load as quickly as possible and then on the road to Appleton.  Our pick up location is The Bar on Lynndale.  I hope to be there at 5:00 leave at 5:15am.  We will have two buses, so there will be plenty of room.

Once we arrive at Midway, you will take your luggage to the Southwest ticket counter.  Your flight is Southwest 2753 leaving at 11:05am.  We will arrive in Denver at 12:45 PM. Southwest does not charge for check bags, you are allowed two.  Please pack accordingly, and keep all bags under 50 pounds.  Beside your checked bags, you are allowed a carry on bag and a personal item such as a purse, computer bag, briefcase or a smaller bag that will fit under the seat.  I recommend checking the Southwest website for the latest baggage information.  You cannot do early check in yourself, so do not call me for a confirmation number.

Once you arrive in Denver, you will gather your belongings and wait for directions to the buses that will transfer you to Beaver Creek.  Your trip leader will let you know when and where to load the bus.  If you are making your own flight arrangements, meet the group at the Southwest baggage claim. On the way we will make a shopping stop at Apple Jacks and King Soupers, so have your shopping list ready.  Try to make the stop as short as possible so we can get to Beaver Creek and get checked in.  I am hoping to arrive at Borders Lodge at 5 PM.

We are staying at Borders Lodge, 1120 Village Road, Beaver Creek, CO  81620.  When we arrive you will check in and a person from each condo will need to scan a credit card.  Do we have luggage delivered to room.  The condo is walking distance to the heart of Beaver Creek and there is a chair lift right out the back door.  They have complimentary shuttles to get you around the area, plus there is the public transportation system.  They have daily maid service and washer and dryer for each unit.  There is a swimming pool and two hot tubs.  You can check the condos out on their website, www.borderslodge.com.

Saturday evening there will be a wine and cheese welcome reception from 6:30 to 7:30 PM.  People from Borders Lodge will be telling us about the resort and the area around Beaver Creek.  Representatives from the hill will also be there to tell us about the mountain, ski lessons, discount lunch vouchers, etc.      This is where I will be handing out the lift tickets.

Our lift tickets are good for Beaver Creek and Vail.  As I said earlier, there is a chair lift right behind our condo to access Beaver Creek.  If you would like to ski Vail, and I do recommend it, you will have to get transportation there, either the public transportation system or the Turtle Bus.

We are planning an apres’ ski party for Monday evening, which is always a nice get together and a chance to visit with the people you not skiing with.  We are still working on the details and will get the time and location to you when we have it.  As is usual, all beverages will be on your own.

On Wednesday evening we will have the chili cook off contest. This has become very popular and so we will do it again.  Bring your secret recipe and prepare it in your condo and then bring it down to the common area for sampling and voting by the members.  Al Gardapee is in charge of this event and if you are preparing a dish to enter the contest, contact him to be on the list.  We will start at 6 PM.

On Friday evening is our farewell dinner.   The final details are not all done yet, so I will let everyone know once this is taken care of.  Again the beverages are on your own.    After we eat we will go through the departure information and take care of any unfinished business.  Then the last thing will be the Obtuse award, or if you are a Sly Fox, the Lunar award.  So that means all week long you will have your eyes open so that you can make nominations that night.  With 75 people and a full week there should be some good stories.

On Saturday morning we will check out of our condos (make sure that any room charges have been cleared) and load up for our trip to the airport and our flight home.  I will announce the bus schedule at the Friday night dinner.  You are on Southwest flight 3154 leaving at 11:25am arriving Milwaukee at 2:40 PM.  In Milwaukee we head to baggage claim, grab our items, board the bus and head for Appleton and Green Bay.

If you are having trouble on the day of our departure, and will have trouble meeting the scheduled times, please call 920-493-7375 and let me know what is happening.  All though there is not a lot that I can do, at least I will know what your situation is and might be able to make some suggestions to ease the situation.

With this letter there are two other attachments.  The rooming list as I submitted it.  The unit letter I used is not going to be your unit number, just my way of keeping track.  The bus list showing where you will be boarding the bus.  Please check this out and let me know if there is a change to be made.  Also reply back so that I know you have received all of this, thanks.

On Tuesday, January 19 there will be a pre-trip meeting at the Woods Golf Course located at 530 Erie Road.  The meeting will start at 7:00 PM and I will be going over the latest trip information.  I will try to answer all the questions that you have at that time.

Thank you, and I am looking forward to seeing you soon.
